Background:Kirsty studied Physiotherapy at AUT and has post graduate qualifications in Sports Medicine and Sport and Exercise. This year she has returned to AUT to further her post graduate knowledge and is looking to complete her research based master’s thesis in the next few years.
Along with working for HealthZone Kirsty also works as a physiotherapist for HPSNZ and Bike NZ. Kirsty has travelled to numerous international events with Bike the pinnacle of which being the London Olympics. She has a strong background in cycling having been an elite cyclist herself, where she spent 4 years in Europe racing professionally, competed in 5 world championships and was a member of the road cycling team for the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games. Due to her cycling background she has a good understanding of cycling biomechanics and can help with addressing cycling specific injuries including correct bike fit. Alongside providing everyday physiotherapy intervention to clients of all ages, sports and abilities Kirsty also has a keen interest in breathing retraining and core stability work. She has completed specific post graduate training in breathing and is a full qualified clinical Pilates instructor and regularly integrates these aspects into the management of her physiotherapy clients.
Outside of work Kirsty still has a keen interest in the outdoors and gets out on her bike when she can, she also kayaks and enjoys trail running and completed the 2 day coast to coast in 2011. Most recently she has been enjoying honing her skills on her mountain bike and can be out on the forest most weekends trying to better her Strava times on her favourite trails.
