Qualifications:
Background:
James finished AUT in 2000 with a Bachelor of Health Science in Physiotherapy. After a short sabbatical pursuing his love of skiing, he started working in private practice. Here he developed an interest in sports team physiotherapy working with Batercard Cup rugby league, the Junior Kiwis, NZ “A” Rugby League and the Samoan IRB 7’s rugby team travelling on the international circuit.
Following this period in New Zealand, James moved to Scotland to set up a Sports Performance Centre of Excellence (SPACE) in Edinburgh’s West End. This provided an excellent opportunity to work with Scotland’s premiere physiotherapists, sport doctors and orthopaedic surgeons. During this time he also worked with the Edinburgh Gunners in the Heineken Cup, the Scotland 7’s on the IRB circuit, the Snow Sports Scotland, and at the Scotland Institute of Sport. In addition to the sports side of the practice James also worked with corporate clients from several large banks and insurance companies providing work place assessments and giving ergonomic advice, as well as seeing a broad spectrum of private patients.
Following a spell of working in private practice in London, that included working in Soho and Harley Street with the casts of various West End shows, James and his wife indulged their passion for travel before returning home to settle on Auckland’s North Shore.
On arriving home James decided to move away from the sports focus and return to private practice (and normal hours). However, this was short lived as John Mayhew was looking for a full time physiotherapist for the newly formed NZ Warriors Toyota Cup side. Much to the dismay of his wife, James found that he could not stay away from the sports field and has subsequently immensely enjoyed this role for the past 2 years.
James has also recently completed a postgraduate diploma in musculoskeletal physiotherapy at AUT. In order to fill in all his “spare” time James also works most mornings at Health Zone, which provides a good balance between a vast variety of sports injuries, academia, and regular private practice.

Patient Testimonial
I was originally referred to James by my coach and training partner who had spoken highly of his skills as a physio. I experienced first hand James ability to repair the injuries that were incurred by my training. James was prepared to investigate the causes of my injuries which meant the injuries had little chance of reoccurring. Not only were my injuries gone but James wanted to enhance my abilities as an athlete. Each appointment I feel as though I leave with a sense of security because I trust James is a capable physiotherapist.
