History
The idea of HealthZone was conceived by David Abercrombie and Doctor John Mayhew in 1999 when the idea of establishing The Millennium Institute of Sport and Health (as it is now known) was first mooted. At the time David and John were both involved in highly successful Sports Medicine practices as well as being the respective Physiotherapist and Doctor to the New Zealand All Blacks. David was also Physiotherapist to the America’s Cup holders at the time Team New Zealand. It wasn’t until completion of the Millennium Institute of Sport and Health (MISH) in 2002 that HealthZone became fully operational. MISH is New Zealand’s world class sports training centre, helping our community to be healthy and our top athletes become champions. The facilities at MISH have been purpose built for the training, treatment and preparation of high performance athletes who have the support of not only sport science but also HealthZone to help them achieve international and domestic success. MISH and HealthZone welcome not only elite athletes but just as importantly the local community, schools, business, sports teams and other organizations wanting to avail themselves of our leading edge facilities and services. HealthZone is able to offer the expert services of Physiotherapists, Orthopedic Surgeons, sports medicine doctors, general practitioners, doctors specializing in women’s health, podiatry, sports massage and a nutritionist. There is a trained nurse on site and a theatre for minor surgical procedures. |
